As an educator working at the crossroads of digital media, accessibility, ESL, and rhetoric, I believe it is essential to create a curriculum for students on a global scale. To acknowledge the difficulties presented by linguistic diversity, educators need to grapple with the linguistic colonization of the Internet by the English language. Approximately 5% of the total world population are first-language speakers of English; however, 52.9% of websites employ English. Therefore, English-language dominance on the Internet essentially works as a means of gatekeeping the Internet for a fraction of the globe’s inhabitants. Scholars working in digital humanities need to address this important ethical issue
